These photos were sent to us by Annette Mcfarlane. They document her grandmother, Hannah Shurman/Sherman, and great grandmother, Enia Krinitz, coming into Merthyr from Odessa, Ukraine (Part of the then Imperial Russia).
Her grandfather, Soloman Shurman/Sherman arrived in Merthyr before the First World War, likely in a bid to find work. Following the war, Hannah and Enia joined Soloman in Merthyr. Both Hannah and Enia are buried in Merthyr Jewish cemetery.
