Image 12: One of the organ players from Ynysybwl Independant Chapel at the beginning of the century was a young twlelve year old girl by the name of Myfanwy. She lived there with her grandmother - until she moved to Maesteg to join the Royal Welsh Women's Choir in 1910. And this is when her friends from Ynysybwl saw her last - until this week, when Madam L Myfanwy Mayers came to Aberystwyth to present the Eisteddfod Chair on behalf of Cape Town Welsh Society, South Africa. Madam Mayers, who was born in Nghaersws, was the acompanist for the Royal Welsh Women's Choir. She had been working with the choir in America twice and she married in South Africa when the choir were visiting the country in 1912. Although her husband is an Englishman from Reading she has immaculate Welsh and speaks with her original accent.

Image 14: The subject given to Cynan, the Archdruid, for his talk to twenty overseas students staying in Aberystwyth was - "The Welsh Grand National". But the focus was on here, not on Tattenham Corner or Beecher's Brook. The young students from France, Germany, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Malaya, Mauritius, Nigeria, New Zealand, North Borneo, Singapore, Trinidad, Tanganyika and Yougoslavia - learnt about the Welsh main Festival and it's official language, Welsh.

Image 23: Geraint Lloyd Owen, Sarnau, Meirionethshire, first for reciting under 12 with Rebecca Edwards, Llawrybetws, Corwen. She won two first prizes in poetry competitions under 18 years old, namely, composing a 'telyneg' and a song for the Noson Lawen.
Image 24: The 'Y Cymo' cup and a pize of �150 in the main choral competition went to Skewen Choir, near Swansea (conducted by Mr Gwyn Thomas). The observations on the choirs were not delivered seperately, but Dr D E Parry Williams, in presenting the marks said: "We had a real treat this afternoon. We were so thrilled to hear the Welsh piece side by side with a piece by one of the world's greatest composers!" "Her, Her i'th golyn, Angau; by Bach was composed when he was a young man. Arwel Hughes composer of 'Gweddi' is also a young man. The choirs' positions are as follows: 1, Sciwen 178:2, Caernarfon 173:3, Troeddyrhiw 171;4, London Welsh 170:5, Carmarthen 160".
