For a few months in 1851, Gwawr Welsh Baptist chapel in Aberaman was taken over by the 'Mormons' - members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - as their minister, Dewi Elfed, had converted to this new faith. Dewi Elfed emigrated to America with fellow converts, but remained a controversial figure in the 'Mormon' church.
