Description

Photography by John Ball - 1.00pm, 9 Aug 1998 (with an Agfa ePhoto307 digital camera)
In the heat of yesterday's sunshine, I took a walk along some of the footpaths and tracks which wind across the hillside of Allt-y-grug, overlooking Ystalyfera.

Image 1:

I followed a track across this field hoping to find shade in the trees ahead.

Image 2

The hillside afforded wonderful views up the valley of the river Tawe towards the distant Brecon Beacon mountains. The village of Ystradgynlais can be seen marking the winding valley road.

Image 3:

Another view up the valley. The yellow flowers in the left foreground are ragwort.

Image 4:

This narrow lane led past some colourful old farm buildings.

Image 5:

The shade from this archway of trees provided me with welcome relief from the hot afternoon sunshine.

Image 6, 7:

Through the trees I could see tantalising glimpses of this isolated farmhouse shimmering in the heat.

Image 8:

Old country lanes like these have existed for hundreds of years.
