Description

This picture shows an employment reference attached to one of the applicant of register ledgers. The company that the young lad worked for was in Liverpool and he applied to work at the Lysaght works. It shows the reputation that the steelworks had and how secure and certain it was as an industry at that time. You will notice the typeface on the letter shows that this was written on a typewriter and spelling mistakes were corrected by hand afterwards. This letter was donated to Lysaght Institute by Orb Steelworks when it closed its doors in 2020. It has been made possible to share this with thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
