Photograph illustrating the attrition rate in RAF pilots during WW2
Description
1941/2. This photo was taken by cadet pilot Bill Talbot (later W/C Bill Talbot DFC & Bar), of him and his fellow No #1 course members under training. Bill marked with a 'x' those who didn't survive the War, almost 50% of this intake of young men. This illustration also quite accurately reflected the loss rate of close to 50% of all aircrew lost in RAF Bomber Command alone during WW2 (ie 55,000).
