Shadrach and Mary Jones: Beautiful in good work
Description
Converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ['Mormons'] in Monmouthshire in the mid-19th century, Shadrach and Mary Jones emigrate to the American West in 1856. Although he was a coal miner in Wales, Shadrach demonstrates a feel for working in stone, and develops a reputation as a stone mason. He and Mary settle in Willard, north of Salt Lake City, and prosper through their hard work, well beyond what they could have expected in Wales. Unfortunately shortly after returning to Wales as a missionary, Shadrach dies of pneumonia, and is buried in Swansea. Mary survives him by 38 years.
