On the before the Riots witnesses Wife
told him me that Zephaniah Willliams had
called her to the door of his House and
persuaded her to take a Card for her
Husband me to protect him me and herself
as they we would not be safe unless
they took a Card - witness I then took the

Witness I went to Zephaniah's House that
same night - found Zephaniah there
and Old John Williams with a Room
full of people - heard John Williams
say " come on - Come on - this is a very
good cause " - witness ^ I sat down about
10 Minutes then Zephaniah stood up
and said Now my lads this is a
good Cause you have 5 Articles to
attend to he then named them
one was to have the Poor Houses down -
another Free trade - another to have the
Poor as well as the Rich to Vote for
Members of Parliament and these are

all any very easy got by having the
Poor to stick together without any
trouble or Shedding of Blood. _ x
Witness I then got up and went away.
On Thursday night witness I went there again
he I then heard John Williams talk about
the same things Zephaniah did on
the Tuesday -

______ Zephaniahs Son then got up
and had Some speeches out of the
Vindicator newspaper. -

__ Witness ^ I went there again on Friday or
Saturday Night and heard Thomas
Guttery make speeches - and He said Chartism
was a very good thing for the Poor - and
if every one would stick true we should
get the Charter in spite of all the
Devils in Hell. -

On Sunday evening between 3 & 4 O'clock
witness ^ I went to Zephaniahs and
saw him in the Room full of people
and heard him say you had better
Arm yourselves and come here this

He also said said " People should not be afraid of not being supplied on the road for that there was a great
many Gentlemen giving their money to support the cause our Wives and children should
not be in want until we came home again in peace & without shedding of blood that
there was nothing of that sort to be -

it would be one of largest
Meetings they had ever Seen
they were to start as soon as it was
dark - witness ^ I then went home.
About 1/2 past 5 O'clock ^ I was walking
up the road by Zephaniahs House
with my Wife 3 Men with Pikes
came up to me and said here
is one of them that we have Seen
in the Lodge going to Run away
they pushed my Wife and took me
to the Door I then saw several lots
of Men from 2 to 4 together go Round
____________________into a building
the Corner without any Arms ^ under
the Lodge Room and Returned
again with Pikes and other weapons
it was Dark I could not plainly
See what weapons but Some of them
__I did not see Zephaniah after I left the Mountain
was Pikes - I was made to go with them as far as Stow
Church when I made my escape - I got home Tuesday Evening
