John Parsons
I am a Butcher living at Pillgwenlly.
I was in Newport on the 4th Nov. the
day of the Riots - I heard it said the
Chartists were coming. I went up
Stow Hill as far as the Church Yard
I saw the Mob coming up by
way of the Friars, the foremost ones
were walking eight or ten abreast
armed with Guns, Pikes, Spears
and various other Kinds of Weapons.
I should think there were from 4000
to 5000. I saw Zephaniah Williams
the prisoner there, he was in the
arrear there was a few but not
many after him, he^ had no weapon of
any sort with him that I saw, I did
not see him afterwards.
