Joseph Stockdale - I am ostler to Mr
Brewer of the Blaina - On Sunday Evening
before the Riots about 5 o Clock I was
returning from my Son in Laws Isaac Davis
a Fitter up who lives at Blaina - I went
home along the Parish Road until I came
near to Prisoner's house - where I saw a
great number of men outside and inside the
House - I went into the House until I
was near to Zephaniah Williams who was
standing upon a Chair - where he was speaking
and addressing the people and directing them
to go as soon as it was dark up to the
Hill which is between Coalbrook Vale
and Ebbw Vale Works - and take with
them a weapon of some kind or other if they
could - if not he would try and furnish
them- and when they were there they
should know what was to be done - He
said I hope you will be all true to one
another and meet upon the Hill -
I then went straight to Mr Brewer's
& infd Mr. T. L. Brewer of what I had
seen and heard - They were to
meet fourteen thousand on the Hill
