I was at home Sunday night

3 Novr I heard ^ the Chartists
were coming to Newport I
had sent my Children to School
before hand I was alarmed
and went out to fetch them
back
I saw a great number of people
armed. I was opposite
W Williams's the Druggist in
Commercial Street I looked
up & down the road I could
not see my Children and I
went on toward the Westgate
When I came there I met a vast
quantity of people coming
down Stow Hill way I looked
for my Children again

When I saw the mob with
their Guns inclined to murder
I began to look out if I cod

Westgate by Mr Jenkins's

I stood there a few minutes
before I heard the Guns going

& I then heard two or three
Guns going off I then tried
to get away but I could
hardly do it I went across

Gun. I saw him coming out
again & fire thro' the Westgate

again and I saw him come
out and fire again into the
Window where the Soldiers
were. And he went back again
not go off a third

him in Welsh Well, Well you

they are coming after you & you
will be sure to be taken. He turned
short round took his Gun which
was on his Shoulder and Cocked
it and I though he was going
to shoot me but he put the Gun
down and carried it swinging
in his hand down the Street towards
the Parrot & turned up Charles Street
towards Stow Hill when I lost
sight of him. He had a blue
