Moses Scard of Newport
Police office says I was
duty at the Westgate Inn in Newport
on Monday 4th Nov Inst.
About 1/2 p[ast] 10 Oclock in the morning
I was at Mrs Harris's in Stow
Hill I went to change my Police
Cloaths for private Cloaths
as I appeared to marked in the
Cloaths I wore. Whilst there
I saw the Prisoner come up
from the Westgate with a Pike
in his Hand. He was running
and turned in a Lane opposite
the Catholic Chapel called Bakehouse
Lane. I saw him go into a
House where I had seen a wounded
man previously go into I saw
that man wounded in the Arm
he is since dead as I understand
I saw the Pris.r throw down
a Pike he had in his hand
as he turned into the Lane
I afterwards picked up one
near the spot I did not consider
