To Prove that on Monday morning 4 November about
1/2 past 9 hearing the Chartists were coming, witness & another boy
went to the Machine and met a large party of men the other side
of the Machine armed with Guns &c. Saw Frost there in front
of them. He asked a boy (next witness) where the Soldiers were
the boy said about a dozen had gone to the Westgate Jack
the Fifer John Rees was on the other side with a pistol in
one hand and a pike in the other and he told the boy to
go back and tell them they meant to have the Westgate for
themselves by and by he said this loud enough for Frost
to hear - Frost stood on one side and Jack the Fifer on the
other - they said March - and then they marched one party
up the hill towards the Friars and the other towards
Commercial Street and witness saw the two parties meet at
the top of Charles Street ___________ Call

To prove that he was on the Tram Road with the last
witness John Rees near the /W/aterloo Gate - that they met
a large body of men - that two acted as Leaders at the
head one of the witness afterwards learned was Frost
and the other Jack the Fifer they halted and Frost asked witness
where the Soldiers were witness said about a dozen were at
the Westgate and the rest at the poor house - Jack the Fifer
said "we intend to have the Westgate" he had a Gun &
pike a great many were armed, and one had a pike with
a hook which he said was to hook the horses by the legs -
Witness heard Frost and Jack say "Come on" or March and
and they marched like Soldiers till they came to the Road leading
to Stow Hill by the Friars - then the party divided - some
went up the Hill - the others the straight road to Newport
through Commercial Street - Witness heard firing in the Town
and shortly afterwards saw Frost running away _____ Call

To prove the mob coming round from Stow Hill to the front of the
Westgate - that the head of them advanced to the other corner & then turned
round to the front door - Before they came to the door Witness saw Walters
among them with a gun which he held towards the window in a ~
threatening manner - the first of the mob had then come to the door &
