I reside about 4 miles from Newport.
and am a banker there Henry
Vincent and other made violent speeches
against the government. The Meeting was
in the Open Air and I remember attending
at Newport as a Magistrate about the
day of May last upon the examination
of Henry Vincent who was convicted at
the last Assizes for Sedition and Conspiracy
that troops were then stationed in Newport
and in consequence of the Excitement which
had prevailed in Newport in consequence
of the Chartists Meeting which had been held
in the Town they were directed by the Magistrates
to be prepared for any emergency that might
arise. The Soldiers were stationed at the
Westgate Inn and in the large left hand
room as you enter the House The Windows
of this room were down to the ground
