Henry Chappell Policeman of Newport states
On Monday morning the 4th November
I was standing about 3 feet inside the front
door of the Westgate when the Mob came in
front The greater pack came round the
western corner from Stow Hill - the rest came
from Commercial St[reet]. I am certain I saw
100 or upwards come from Commercial St[reet],
Stow Hill and about 50 from Commercial St[reet].
From where I stood I could see the corner of
Mr Clements's Shop on the one side & nearly
if not quite to Henry Evans's Shop on the other.
