Tiler and plasterer states
That previous to Monday the 4th November last I was
sworn in a Special Constable - that I was acting as a
Special Constable on Monday Morning the day of the Riots
and was stationed at the entrance door - I saw the Mob
form in front of the Westgate armed with Guns pikes and mandrels
and other weapons - After the firing at the Westgate had
eased I went out of the Westgate and saw the mob running
away in all directions dropping their weapons - I saw one
man dressed in a flannel smock running by Mr Clements
Shop and turn up Baneswell Road and he dropped a Pike
opposite Mr Clements door - I picked up that pike & observed
it had a brass ferule - a hole in the handle & burnt at the
end. I placed it in the Westgate Coach house - the pike I now
produce is the same I then picked up - I also picked up
a new mandrel numbered 20 and several other pikes in
different parts of the Town which are of the same description
as those I saw in the hands of the Mob before the Westgate
and similar to those now produced - the pikes I picked
up I placed in the Coach House by the direction of the
Magistrates- I also picked up a Gun - Powder flask
and a small bundle containing 42 leaden bullets which I
also placed in the Westgate
