Henry Kear of Newport accountant states -
I know Mr Aaron Crossfield wholesale Ironmonger and
vender of Gun powder in Newport. - I also know a Warehouse of his, which
is near the bottom of Corn Street. - I never bought Gunpowder of
Mr. Crosfield, but frequently when I have been in this warehouse on other
business I have seen casks wrapped up in canvas (in the manner that
Casks of Powder are) lying in the warehouse - I have also seen similar
casks brought in and carried out of the warehouse by Mr Crosfield's
workmen and I have heard them asking for Powder & speaking about
the casks they were carrying in a way that induced me to believe it was
powder they were carrying.
