Monday 28 O-[c]t I attended the usual meeting
in the eve-ng
at the Coach & Horses Blackwood
I saw money paid to Pugh there was a
dispute at the meeting Respecting physical
& Moral force Barwell was the Secretary
some said he did not come up to the
mark __________________
Wednesday the 30[Oct] - I saw Z. Williams &
Jones the Watchmaker at Coach and the[y] said
they where missionaries the[y] came to get us
arranged they said they where going to
visit all the Lodges in the neighbourhood
to stir them up - only few present [?] in this
meeting
Thursday 31[Oct] - I was at Newport I called
at Hawkins to look at pistols I came
home late & went to the Coach - I saw Williams
& Frost, I was tould Jones was there - I heard
the meeting that eveni[-n]g was private.

Friday 1De -br[*] - This meeting took place from
2 till 5 o'clock this was a meeting of 30
Delegates Frost, Williams, Jones, Moses Owen,
Reynolds, Phillips Pontypool - Reynolds was
the Chairman agreed at the meeting that
they all should provide Arms what they could
get Guns Pikes Mandrels &c
The Report something like this in effect
each Delegate to state how many
Members in his Lodge some had 1000 some
800 some 600 - some less - the next thing was
how many they could bring with guns
how many with pikes and how many they
could depend upon and select them in classes
I believe 25 Lodges was Blackwood,
Ponlanoraith[**] Flower de lieu, Maescummur,
Crumin, Argoed, Gellygross, Cross penmain,

Dowlais, Rumney, Twynnstar, Wainllychan [*] ,
L[l]anelly, Blaina, British Works, P[onty]pool, Newport,
they where to secure all the authorities when
they met them and to be kept prisoners as
hostages, they proposed first to march at Abercarne
it was considered to fare for Pontypool people
to walk & he agreed to meet in Risca
Pontypool to come to Newport all to be at
Newport 12 o clock Monday night & they
where to follow & then lead us and obey
their orders when this arrangement was made
Frost, Jones, Williams, Reynolds, Phillips,
Owen, and all the rest was present. Five
pounds was given me by Pugh to buy
arms -
On Saturday I went to Newport I
looked at some Guns I did not buy
I returned the money to Pugh ; The North
Delegate came to me Saturday Night I took
him to Frost at his lodgings they both went

out of the House - in about quarter of an hour
they came in; Mrs[*] Frost sent two letters I gave
Frost, he put put them in the fire with one or two more
then we went to the Coach all three, to a Bed
room, the Delegate wanted to put the rising
further off - Frost said he could not as
the time was agreed the day before the Delegate
left about 9 o'clock I believe he was to go through
Newport to Monmouth then to Birmingham
Sunday night I was at the Coach number of
people was there many strangers it was about
half past 6 - Frost was then outside walking back
& fore before they started they fired a shot then
they said now for Newport they had Guns
Pikes &c Wo/e/men and children crying much
when they started - I heard them saying the
signal was to stop the Mail in Newport
by they would know in other places they
had succeeded -
