Reg v Samuel Etheridge

Edward Harris of High Street in the Borough of
Newport Sadler states that on the 4th Novr last the Day
of the Riots I saw Samuel Etheridge walking down
High Street in the direction of the Westgate Inn - I saw
him proceed down the street about 50 or 60 yards and I then
went into my house - soon after I heard firing which
appeared to be in the direction of the Westgate - About 6 minutes after I heard the firing I went out into the Street
again - When I heard ^ several shots fired , and the mob which
was in front of the Westgate retreating. Before I
heard the last shot fired I saw Etheridge crossing
towards
the King's Head - from the opposite side of the Street
