Ann Thomas says I am at present living with
my Mother Mary Williams (she has married a second
time) at Abercarne - I lived for a week at the house
of Thomas Duffield ^ Jr at Risca that is from the 28th
October to the 4th November - I was not out of
Duffield's house all day Sunday - Duffield & his
Wife were at home all day at least I do not think
Duffield went farther than the Malthouse that was
towards the Evening - About 9 that Evening nearly
20 persons came into the house & had beer which
______________________they were not armed
they paid for - & went out again ^ I asked some of them
what was the matter - they said I should see bye & bye.
Presently many more came in - Some had guns some
pikes some nothing at all - they wanted beer which was
refused them at first but they would not go without it
& it was drawn for them - People kept coming in & going
out & having beer until about 2 O-clock in the
morning when the house was cleared & I went to bed &
Duffield went to bed also - I had been in bed about
half an hour when called I heard a loud

knocking at the door & voices crying out open the door.
Duffield called to me & told me to go down stairs
but I did not go I was so much afraid .
I heard the door burst open & people in the house -
they remained about an hour & a half - when the
house became quiet again I went down stairs - they
were all gone except one man who sitting by the
fire & said he was very bad - I do not know the man
& shod not know him again there was no candle & the
fire was just out - The panel of the frontt door
was knocked in - Duffield called to me from up stairs
to see if there was any harm done & to go as far as the
Cellar door - I did so & found it locked - I did not
look into the bar -- I had no candle- I then went to bed.
I got up again whilst it was getting light (

Mrs Duffield say "I saw them going up stairs with a
_____________said they
lantern & they ^ would have the Gun if there was one in
the house" - She also told me to go up & look for it
which I did but could not find it - this was just
after the 1st lot went away - I know a Man
called Griff a blacksmith he was there - He had on
a round jacket I saw him standing by the fire - I
don't ^ think he came with the first lot - I do not know
whether I shook hands with him or not - I was so
frightened - On Monday Evening between 6 & 7 -
I was 's in the Kitchen - several people
were in the room - One of them showed me a toasting
fork - I asked what he wanted with it - He said
"nothing" - I then said Give it to me - which he did -
I immediately carried it to my Mistress - She looked
at it & said it was a pretty fork & put it away - It
remained there until last Wednesday ~

Before I went to bed the first ^ time & whilst the house was
full of people I went to the door and there saw a
horse without a Saddle close by another horse & a man
on it standing on the tram road - about 3 yards off -

I took no notice of the man - except he had a greatcoat
on - At that time they were calling out "fall in" - I did
not hear the man on horseback say any thing
