I was at home all day
Sunday week last the
3rd Novr Inst. I was at home

in the Evening ^ about Two Men
came in whom I knew by

appearance very
wet they asked to dry themselves
they said they had lost their
way. They called for a
Pint of Beer - about half
an hour afterwards 3 other
men came in very wet
I did not see them bring in any thing but I
saw upon the settle a piece of ¢‚¬¦/ ...
they were not in 20 Minutes
before our House was filled
with men armed with all
sorts of Guns: Pikes Sticks
Mandrils Swords ...other
weapons. I saw a Man

was about 1/2 p 10 My Father
was in bed he went to bed soon
after the first two men came in.
I know one of the men he lives
at Blackwood a quack Doctor
named Ferram Farren[*]
______saw
I also a man named Thomas
Havard of Blackwood who appeared
to be the leader I heard his name
called very frequently he appd
to be very busy. I did not see
any weapon in his possession

but asked me for a fork to
turn his Pistol ^ with I told him I cod
not leave my place to get
one. They remained till the mo-g
till near 7 Oclock. The House was
up over our Shoes in Water. They
paid for all the Beer we drew
there were hundreds who could

not get into the House I heard them
say they were coming to Newport
that Newport would soon be
worth nothing. I heard a man say
(who said to he came from the Town)
that there were only 60 Soldiers in
Newport. I heard them say they shod
begin their work about the Poor House.
Many people came to the room
I was in and asked if Mr Frost was
there I heard them say he was
gone to the Cefn to meet Jones
of Pontypool
^and his Men as he had promised
to meet them there I also heard that
they were to have been at Newport
at one Oclock that night I think
they did not go in consequence
of the others not meeting them.
The men marched away between
________Oclock in the mo-g
6 & 7 near 7^ it was daylight.
About 1/2 past 9 I saw the Men
running back I saw
a Mr Watts of Gelligros
on Horseback who said they
were running away in all

in all directions that the Artillery
had blockade the Town and
had killed a good many Men

saith that I was at home
except I went to Chapel and returned
about 9 Oclock
All Sunday, I had heard a
Report that Men were
_______from the Hills to take
coming down ^ Newport
Soon after I came home there

were three Men^ who came
in to dry themselves
I did not know either of
them they called for a Pint
of Beer About 3/4 of an hour

afterwards I out at the
Door with one of the Men
who said they were coming
I saw lights coming down
the Tramroad I went down
