says that he was at the Royal
Oak in Thomas Street [Newport] on Sunday
3 Nov[embe]r about 9 or a quarter after
in the evening I went in with
Capt[ain] Michell who lives in my
house & R[ichar]d Ashburn I saw
a great many people there
they were having something to
drink. I was in the room on the
right hand side leading up stairs
I saw Gordon come in and go out
again. I was informed out of doors a Riot
was to take place. I did not
hear or see any thing more
there was a man who came
to the room I was in & beckoned
to me I went out at the back
Door the man asked asked me what I was
I said I was nothing he asked me if I was against them I said
I said I would have nothing
at all to do with it
that there was something
wrong as Gordon a mason came
