Thomas Pritchard of Ebbw Vale in the parish of
Bedwellty Fireman who states I should [know] David
the Tinker if I could see him in the dress he
was in when I saw last - I saw him on Monday
the 4thNovember at the Waterloo Public
near Newport. John the fifer was
there- I was going up the road with Messrs
Harford's engine - there was a very large
band of persons, they reached from the Gare
Pool to Court y Bella machine which is
at least a mile in length - they were armed
with Guns, spears, Pikes, mandrels, swords -
scythes - David the Tinker carried a Gun
in one hand & a pistol in the other -
Jack the fifer had a Pike in one hand
and a stick in the other - Jack the
fifer David the Tinker & others were -
talking together & I saw David the Tinker -

go into the House together he afterward
came out of the Waterloo House
with two Guns in his hand - he gave one of the
Guns to another man, they consulted tog[ethe]r
several of them and they ordered all the
Guns to come forwards they came
forwards, they formed the men 6 abreast
& placed a man with a Gun at -
the end of each section - they then -
started on towards Newport - the Tinker
& the fifer were the leaders - I remained
there until they passed, they requested me
to go along with them - I told them we
must put the engine all right first -
or we should be in danger, they told
us to look sharp
