Edward Harris - I am a Special
Constable for the Borough of Newport
From information I had received I
on
went to the House of the Prisoner for the
purpose of searching it - I saw
Prisoner and his Wife there - I
told Prisr that I came there to
search his House - Prisr said he

had nothing there belonging ^ and
that I was welcome to search
the House - Prisr said that he
was not a Chartist and that he
had nothing to do with them-
That he had been from home all
day on Sunday before the Riot the
3rd November instant at Liswerry
till 11 o'clock at night - that
when he came home he went straight
to bed and that he had heard of
nothing that had taken place
until the following Monday
morning - I then proceeded
to search the House - I searched
Prisoners apartments and also

The Vindicators I placed under the care
of the Constable Whitchurch - That
on [blank space] I received a Summons
from the Magistrates requiring the
attendance of Prisoner to give
Evidence of what he Knew
had taken place at his House
on the night previous to the Riots -
That Prisoner said that what he
had informed me when I searched
his House was false - that he was
at home - that persons had been Sworn
in his House - from 25 to 30
persons left his House on the
Sunday night with pikes and
hooks and Sticks - for the purpose
of going up to the tunnel - and
He Knew nothing more about
it - That on Friday the
22nd November instant I
received a Warrant from the
Magistrates to apprehend Prisoner -
