Newport Chartists Vol.13, p.17

Description

17

William Davies of Tredegar - Constable
States - I know the prisoner John Owen since last
night - I know where he lives in the parish of Aberystruth
in the county of Monmouth - He is a Blacksmith
as he told me - his Shop is by the Ebbw Vale
Tram Road near his house in the county of Monmouth
I apprehended the prisoner - the prisoner's wife in
his presence asked me who ordered me to catch him
I told them both that I had a warrant under the
hand and seal of Samuel Homfray Esq - his wife
said they want to catch you because you made
them things, but never mind, nobody see you making
them - we had enough of trouble with the Charitists
without this - the prisoner did not say a word more
than that he was not guilty of being with the
Chartists - [Ex d. by the prisr] Your wife may have
said you was free from it - I might go with you
as soon as soon as I liked - Your wife said she
had trouble enough with the Chartists before.
