Bank Newport saith I
live at the Bank near
the Westgate I remember
Monday Morn[in]g the 4th Nov[ember]
Ins[tan]t - a great Body of Men
were coming round the
Corner of Stow Hill about
9 o'clock in the Morning
The[y] were armed with Guns
Pikes &c and formed
in front of the Westgate
I did not know any of them
Imm - [ediat]ely after I saw the Mob
fire a volley of small Arms
on to the Westgate Windows
& Make a rush at the Door
I shortly after saw the
Soldiers fire from
the Westgate upon the

party who had attacked them
who fled in all directions
I saw a Man with a Pike
with a long[..] handle to it
turning round the Corner
of Mr Clements the Druggists
Shop (whilst the firing
was going on) I saw him
fall from a shot in his
leg He drop[pe]d the Pike
& tried to creep toward
the Pavement. Some persons
who were standing under
the corner of Mr Clements
House took him &
carry him away
