The Queen v[ersus] Richards
I John Cullimore State that
on Sunday Evening the 3rd November instant about Eight O'clock
as I was returning from Sirhowy where
I had been for a Walk I met a
group of from fifteen to twenty men
nearly opposite to the Old Rolling
Mill one was armed with a Gun
and the remainder with Pikes.

Benjamin Richards Shoe Maker of
Tredegar was among them Knowing
him to be a Constable I Stopped
and spoke to him. I asked him if
he Knew the Chartists were coming,
he said he did I said Soldiers were
sent for would soon be here
he said he should like to see them
we would Soldier them, he had a
long Stick in his hand Similar to those carried by the other men I did not
observe the Top it may have been
a Pike it was one of the same description my Companions who were
with me Daniel Gwynne and David Davies
ran away supposing I was taken
I left Benjamin Richards with
the group of armed men and ran
after them. I did not Know any
of the other men but Benjamin
Richards whom I spoke to.

Walter William Harman States that
he asked the Prisoner Richards when
when taken into Custody if he Knew the
Charge on which he had been appre-
hended he replied no he had done no
harm to any one, he never carried
Arms but some men came to his House
and told him he was bound to go
and that he never went further than
Stow Hill .
