19th century decorated truncheon
Description
Hand painted and good condition decorated truncheon generically marked - POLICE. The presence of a manufacturers stamp on the base of the handle helps when it comes to identification. In this case, the truncheon is stamped 'FIELD, 22 TAVISTOCK ST', W.C.' which can definitely date it to have been manufacture between 1842 and 1877. The letters W.C. represent the London area of Western Central.
