Description

These finds were recovered from the site of Carmarthen Friary. Founded in the late 13th century, it was one of the largest Franciscan friaries in Britain. The friary was the original burial place of both Edmund Tudor, father of Henry VII, and Sir Rhys ap Thomas, KG, until its dissolution in 1538. Religious houses were places of scholarship; perhaps these tweezers were used to apply gold leaf to manuscripts in the friary's scriptorium.
