Copper strip found on Newport Medieval ship

Description

The copper strip was found in the medieval ship between two futtocks. There are two of these strips the other strip still has iron on it. Both of the strips are about 21-22mm wide. On this strip there is an inscription medium illorum which is reference to text from the bible from Luke IV. This quote from the bible was very commonly usedin medieval times it was found on a large range of objects as a charm and protection from thieves. The text is found on things like barrels and sometimes coffins but in this case the curvature of the copper strip it is most likely that it was on a helmet.
