Egg-blowing on Skomer Island, 1888
Description
An unidentified young man blowing a Guillemot egg outside the farmhouse, 1888.
During the Victorian era, egg collecting was a significant and legitimate 'gentleman's' pursuit: these collectors referred to themselves as 'oologists'. It is likely (although there is no certainty) that Skomer eggs were collected for the oologist market.
