The destruction of a Spanish city during the Civil War

This photograph was part of a collection brought back to Wales by John Williams Hughes from Anglesey who travelled to Spain during the Civil War to volunteer with the Ambulance Corps. Scenes of destruction such as these were common in the villages, towns and cities of Spain during the bitter conflict that gripped the nation. This photograph was taken by Luis Vidal Garrigues Photo Agency of Valencia.
