Description
The market town of Durango in the Basque Country was bombed by German aircraft a few days before the destruction of the town of Guernica. Some 500 inhabitants were killed in the attack which happened on a busy market day. This photograph is part of a collection brought back to Wales by John Williams Hughes from Anglesey who volunteered with the humanitarian effort during the Spanish Civil War. He used these photographs during his talks and lectures in Wales and further afield after his return from Spain.
