Description

1 File. Two sets of notes (a handwritten and a typescript version) made by William Jenkins, Managing Director of Ocean Coal Co. Ltd, on visits to mines in Belgium and Germany in Jul 1904. The notes also contain diagrams of machinery, bathing facilities and the layout of a colliery surface. In this set of notes, Jenkins refers to the following mines:
Grand Hornu Mines, Mons, Belgium; Zollern II, near Dortmund, Germany; Preussen II, near Dortmund, Germany; Preussen I, near Dortmund, Germany; Scharnhorst Mine, near Dortmund, Germany; Victor Mine, near Dortmund, Germany; and Koln Coal Co, Zeche Anna, Alten Essen, Germany.

The file also includes two typescript copies of notes on Grand Hornu Mines and a letter sent to Jenkins from the Ocean Merthyr Steam Coal Offices concerning the production of the typed copies.
