Sewing a Wedding Dress at Laura Ashley
Description
This is a photo of Pauline Hulme working on her wedding dress during her lunch break at Laura Ashley's. Karen Cadman, Pauline's daughter, sent us this photo and reminisces:
"She worked there in the late 70s-80s. I have memories of Mum making us dresses from the scraps in the bin. Me and my sister had matching dresses. She worked on the wedding dresses and told us there were many parts to sew. She loved her job and being with the girls. My dad used to phone up asking reception if mum wanted gravy on her dinner, which would come over the loudspeaker across the whole factory, making everyone laugh. My mum was a practical joker, I believe.
She also returned as a cleaner in her later years at the Vastre, which she loved and put flowers in the toilets. I also went on to work in the Carno factory as a fuse for a few years until they shut the factory down. It was a fab job. I still hang around with the friends I made there. Fab community."
