Two very rare (most likely the Victorian era) one inch, tunic buttons of the very small, former small county force of Merionethshire Constabulary. At some point they appear to have been darkened by a black paint.

Originally when manufactured, they are probably a white metal. If they had been originally manufactured black, they would have been on a brass based button.
