Royal Navy ships guns firing circa world war two
Description
This is a copy of a photograph that was in the possession of Charles Pope a Royal Navy Veteran who served as a RN Stoker between 1918 to 1945. Charles served on board several destroyers before and during world war two. It is believed that Charles was on board a Destroyer and witnessing the firing of the full calibre gun when this photograph as taken during WW2. The Depth charges in the foreground suggest an anti submarine capability. Charles had many photographs of the scenes like this one and he may have been the Photographer or close to the Photographer at the time the photograph was taken. The rear of the photograph with Charles comment, along with other photographs and documents relating to Charles' RN service can be viewed on line at the West Wales Veterans Archive in the Charles Pope collection. The original photograph remains in the custody of the family.
