Royal Navy tradition crossing the line certificate HMS Sirius Charles Pope
Description
This is a copy of a certificate that was awarded to Charles Pope a Stoker Petty Officer on board HMS Sirius on 26th August 1942, when the shipped crossed the Equator. The sailors would abide by tradition and undertake a crossing the line ceremony as the sailed over the demarcation line. . Charles served as a RN Stoker between 1918 to 1945. Charles served on board HMS Sirius in 1942 and 1943, taking part in the relief convoys to Malta, the African and Italy landings, followed by D-Day Operation Overlord. Photographs and documents relating to Charles' RN service can be viewed on line at the West Wales Veterans Archive in the Charles Pope collection. The original photographs and documents remain in the custody of the family.
