Charles served aboard the Sardonyx from 19th December 1936 to April 1938 when she was part of the home fleet and Charles was attached to HMS Victory. Photographs and documents relating to Charles' RN service can be viewed on line at the West Wales Veterans Archive in the Charles Pope collection.
