New Testament belonging to Dennis Pikes

Description

New Testament that belongs to Mr Dennis Pikes who was a soldier whom served with the 1st battalion of the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry between 1950 to 1952. He served in the Korea war and took this book with him. Mr Pikes was given this New Testament by an old soldier who was a friend of the family and a British Army Veteran, L/CPL (Tommy) Hicks, who is named inside. Mr Hicks gifted the book to Mr Pikes, upon learning of his posting to Korea and Mr Pikes kept the book to Korea with him. Mr Hicks had found the bible in the Old barracks in Hereford. It is believed the book may originally have been the property of a Canadian soldier, who served in WW2 Private Ibey and it was this soldier that recorded the countries visited listed in the book. The reference to Bellini written near the back, relates to an Accordion that Mr Pikes heard and appreciated. Mr Pikes wrote the details of the instrument in the book. He later purchased the same model of Accordion. Therefore this is a well-travelled New Testament indeed and has served at least three Commonwealth solders. The photograph here is published to accompany other material, including an interview with Dennis, which can be viewed on line in the Dennis Pikes collection at the Peoples Collection Wales website, on the West Wales Veterans Archive.
