Description

This interview between Farah Allibhai and Preet Mooneeram explores the history and impact of 28 The Parade, a community centre in Cardiff established in 1971 by Ravi Mooneeram. Originally set up to teach English to children from ethnic minorities, the centre quickly expanded to support adults and provide a safe haven for displaced people, including refugees from Vietnam and Uganda.

The ethos of care and inclusivity, modelled by Ravi Mooneeram, made the centre a vital resource for those with limited means, offering facilities at little to no cost. The Parade is fondly remembered as a place where people "came to meet the world," celebrating religious and cultural events in a non-judgmental, supportive environment.
