Description

This is a photograph of Mr John Roberts, known as Bob, a Royal Navy Veteran. Bob is sat next to a model of HMS Diadem, the ship he served on during WW2. The model was made by Bob's friend's late father. Bob's friend and close neighbour Mike Barker, is the custodian of the model made by his father. In a remarkable co incidence, Bob never knew Mike, a close neighbour until a conversation between the two revealed the co incidence. Mike's father served on the very same ship during WW2 with Bob. Bob remembers Mike's father as using the locker on the ship, three up from his own. Bob was 16 years of age and Mike's father, who was a little older, would always ask Bob if he was okay when they met. Bob's memoirs, along with videos and photographs, can be viewed online at the West Wales Veterans Archive on the Peoples collection Wales website in the John Roberts RN collection.
