John and Hazel Jones of Cynwyl Elfed, share memories of milk stands and dairy farming in the 1950s and 60s.

Description

John was raised in Idole and New Inn, Pencader (Blaen Blodau farm) moving to Cynwyl Elfed in 1966. One of 8 siblings raised on dairy farms. As a very young boy John remembers taking the milk from Idole to Pensarn creamery in a horse and cart. The area was so close to Pensarn that lorry collections were not available. The move to Pencader required the use of the Bedford milk churn collection lorries. John and Hazel reflect on the social importance of the milk stand as a place to meet and share news. Conversation is in Welsh.
