This photograph was provided by Ernie Hughes, who served in the RAF at RAF Eastleigh in Kenya in the mid 1950's. Ernie has kept several photographs from his time in Kenya, which offer excellent insight into 1950s life of a RAF serviceman, serving overseas in the 1950s. In this photograph Ernie is seen on a farm in Kenya. British soldiers were employed by farmers to patrol their farms whilst the soldiers enjoyed some rest from normal duties. During the Kenyan emergency Mau Mau terrorists targeted farms owned by 'white' skinned families.
