Anne Griffiths, Former Admin Officer

Description

This interview is part of our Valleys Voices Heritage Project, where we spoke to staff (past and present), volunteers and community members about their experiences with Valleys Kids over our rich, almost 50 year history.

Anne first became involved with Valleys Kids in 1994, initially volunteering because her husband Stuart was already connected with the organisation. She began in the office, doing administrative work, counting money, and managing databases, despite her initial reluctance to handle finances. Over the years, she transitioned into a reception role, welcoming people, providing guidance, and helping with services like food bank vouchers. Anne emphasizes the variety of people shes met and supported, often assisting with unexpected or unusual requests, always striving to help those in need.

Through her work, Anne has seen the impact Valleys Kids has on the community, providing vital support to people who may not know where else to turn. Personally, the organisation has given her confidence, purpose, and professional growth, moving from part-time to full-time work and learning new skills along the way. She highlights the organisations commitment to pushing people—both staff and service users—beyond what they think they can do, and its strong support during personal challenges, including her husbands illness. Valleys Kids has been both a professional and personal anchor, fostering growth, confidence, and meaningful community support.
