Letter sent home from the First World War by Owen Ashton of Llawryglyn, 17 May 1917 [page 1 of 4]
Description
Owen writes to his parents from the Thirtle Bridge Camp, Withernsea, Yorkshire. He asks them to send him a shirt as he thinks that he will be here for days. He complains that they have all had enough and that they are put on parade constantly, which is enough to deafen the boys. He does not want to go away and wishes he could find a way of avoiding it. Owen has seen the doctor and has complained of getting rheumatic and not being able to eat properly. The doctor asked if he could do his work to which he answered no. Despite this Owen writes that he has been put on the draft but comforts himself with the thought that one person was stopped at the last minute last time and so he hopes that next time it will be him.
