Letter sent home from the First World War by Owen Ashton of Llawryglyn, 18 December 1917 [page 1 of 3]

Description

Owen writes that they are moving back and that he is in a hut which he expects to stay in over Christmas. He does not think he will be able to get any cards to send but he is glad that his brother Edward will be home for Christmas. His parents are not to worry, he has plenty to eat now he is out of the line - one man had four parcels at once, and shared them. There is a Church Army [tent] close by, and he had fifteen francs pay, plus what the family sent him. He expresses his trust in God and tells his parents that he still says his prayers.
