Letter sent home from the First World War by Owen Ashton of Llawryglyn, 4 May 1918 [page 1 of 4]

Description

Owen's sister Lizzie had written him, telling him that Passchendaele had been taken. In this letter Owen replies that he believes that this is so
'I can tell you, there was any of us want to go back there'.
The weather has been good, and Owen feels that it is nice to see a piece of green land, rather than be in a place with many shell holes. He appreciates that his parents cannot get certain foods for his parcels, but says that a plain loaf will do, he can get biscuits and tinned fruit. He is in a Lewis gun section now - number 2 Platoon (previously in number 1).
