View of Neath Castle, 1950s

Description

The first castle in Neath dates to the 12th century and was built by Robert, Earl of Gloucester. Throughout the 13th century it was repeatedly attacked by the Welsh and was remodelled in the 14th century. The gatehouse shown in this photograph was built at this time.
