"Milestones" by Arnold Bennett , Mask Society 1936

Description

The Mask Socity put on "Milestones" by Arnold Bennets and Edward Knoblock in 1936 at the All Saints Rooms in Penarth.
Each act of the play is set in a different decade and follows the fortunes of a family of shipbuilders band was thus a suitable subject for a Penarth.
In the picture are Kathleen Chambers, Bunty Williams and Sheila Newton. Sheila Gibbs , nee Newton, later wrote;
In Act 3 Bunty Williams wore my mother's wedding dress and Kathleen wore Gladys Gibbs' going away dress. In the 1900s there was something known as a 'box ' gown which was material already embroidered on the bodice and sleeves and down the front of the garment. This had then to be cut out accordingly. Mother made this dress up for me . It was grey silk with bead embroidery, but it was so 'ripe' that it only lasted for the production
